HOLIDAY-ISH: World Gratitude Day
Today is World Gratitude Day. On this day, we stop and think about how many things we are thankful for in our lives. Gratitude is one of the most important things to give us a confidence boost. Showing off what we are thankful for makes us less stressed, improves our sleeping habits and gives us a longer life.
You may be wondering: “Why do we need a World Gratitude Day, isn’t that what Thanksgiving is for?” Not everybody in the world celebrates Thanksgiving, so it gives every person in every country a chance to think about what they are thankful for.
Fun Fact: Having an attitude of gratitude is actually good for you. It improves sleep, it lowers your stress levels and it boosts your immune system. It also reduces symptoms of depression and improves your self-esteem. If you practice gratitude, it enhances social and professional skills.
The idea of World Gratitude Day came about in 1965 during Thanksgiving dinner in a meditation room of the United Nations Building. Sri Chimnoy, a spiritual leader, suggested a day of thanks the world could celebrate together. Each year, a member present is to hold a gratitude gathering in their country on September 21st.
There is so much in this world to be thankful for. You can be thankful for friends, family, our health. You can even be thankful for how much food is in your cabinets. Everything is something you can be thankful for.
For me, there are three things I am thankful for. She is thankful for her family, her friends, and her Door Family. These three things have inspired her to become stronger and have her look more on the positive side. How have these three things inspired her? You are about to find out.
Family: They have inspired me by showing me that there is good in the world. There are more things to worry about than someone who said a mean comment that doesn’t matter. Family also showed me how to become more confident with myself. They also make me feel loved.
Friends: They have made me feel better about myself. They boost my happiness and always bring a smile to my face whenever I am feeling down. They make me feel loved and they just bring me pure joy.
The Door: The Door has changed my life for the better. They have shown me true happiness and they make me feel loved. It is not just a place to hangout, it is home. The people at The Door are family. They show kids the positive outlook on life and improve their social skills. Everyday I am thankful I have found The Door.
Today, be thankful for everything you have in life. You will regret not being thankful for the many things in your life. Want to show some gratitude today? Go out and give someone a thank you note to make their day. Go out and be thankful for everything that you have in this world.
