The event benefited the Bellwood-Antis Lady Blue Devils Basketball Association and proceeds were put towards the Bellwood/Tyrone PINK game to raise money for Breast Cancer Awareness.

Lynn D’Angelo, one of the race coordinators, said that even though they didn’t get a huge turnout, the event was an overall success.

“The turnout was small, but we expected it seeing as how it was the first year and with other events going on. The feedback from the people was great, though! They really loved the event and the course! We made an $800.00 profit overall,” said D’Angelo.

Denise Showalter and the basketball boosters generated the idea for the event, while D’Angelo was a big contributor and coordinator, since she works in the school district.

The 5K race began at the Bellwood-Antis High School and proceeded on a course throughout town, ending back at the High School Track.

There was a concession stand, games, and other activities onsite before, during, and after the race was complete.

The race day schedule was as the following:

11:30-12:40 : Registration/check in

12:45-12:55 : Race line up

12:55- 1:00 : Singing of the National Anthem and Prayers for racers
