Upside Down in the Middle of Nowhere is a fictional story based upon the horrid stories the destruction of Hurricane Katrina did. in 2005, Hurricane Katrina left many families in ruins and many family members didn’t come out alive.
The book focuses on a family that didn’t evacuate during the start of Hurricane Katrina. In this story, it is 9 year old Armani’s birthday. She is trying celebrate when disaster strikes. It seemed that her family didn’t care about her birthday, but ratherĀ get ready for the hurricane. Despite the incoming black clouds, they had a bar-b-q for her 10th birthday. As the storm was approaching so were the water levels. They were forced to move up to the attic as it got worse.
Armani received a puppy for her birthday, but not long after it got swept into the water her father and brother goes after it. She was stuck with her two twin siblings and her mother. Once they get on dry land and rescued they had to find medical attention for her sick little brother.
This story is a roller coaster of emotions. There are sad moments and uplifting moments. It is a story you can learn lessons on for years. Its not just a children’s story; it can be a story for everyone.
Armani is a an intelligent 10-year-old girl. She has a lot of energy in a house full of people that need more attention than she does. She lives in a house with her grandma, brother, twins, mother, and father.
Overall, this book is a great book for all ages. Every age group can get something out of this book.
