On Friday 7-2 Penns Valley Rams traveled to Bellwood-Antis to play the Blue Devils. Bellwood-Antis went into the game 6-3 in the 5th spot in the District 6 2A rankings.

After a dominating first quarter from Penns Valley the Blue Devils couldn’t get anything going. The Rams scored 28 unanswered points in the first quarter led by junior quarterback Jackson Romig and went on  to win 42-0 before a Senior Night crowd.

Bellwood was not able to get anything going on the offensive side of the ball all night. Junior John Meyer caught a 36 yard touchdown pass to close the first half putting the Rams up 35-0 and ensuring the mercy rule clock would run the entire second half.

Hoping to change the course of the game the Blue Devils needed a spark in the 3rd quarter but came out throwing a pick 6. Penns Valley was able to score once more in the 3rd quarter.

“It was an excellent execution on our part,” said Rams head coach Martin Tobias.

The Rams defense swarmed Bellwood-Antis, able to cause four turnovers –  one fumble and three interceptions, two of which turned into scores.

Tobias said the win was very important, because it gave the Rams momentum.

“I have a great deal of respect for Bellwood-Antis Coach Lovrich, and his staff had his team well prepared for tonight, although we were able to come out on top,” said Tobias.

“Penns Valley made some big plays and shut us down on offense,” said head Coach Lovrich. “We will bounce back. Our guys are ready to work this week. Our focus is only on playoffs now.”

This is Bellwood-Antis’ first time with 4 losses under Head coach Lovrich.

The Devils will face Bald Eagle Area in the District 6 2A playoffs.
