Myers brings back Running Club
Last year, Myers Elementary partnered up with Kid’s of Steel to announce yet another year of Running Club. Running Club is eligible for grades 1-4.
The club will provide easier ways for kids to improve their running skills. It will also allow them to learn healthy habits and give them the chance to interact with others.
Sportsmanship and teamwork are two other benefits of practice.
This is what to expect for the upcoming spring:
- Grades 1-2 will be held on Tuesdays from 3:30-4:15. The first 15 min. will include warmups to get ready for all of the lessons. The main lessons will begin at 3:45 and end at 4pm. To finish off the practice they will practice good sportsmanship by doing team games for the remaining 15 min.
- Grades 3-4 will be held on Thursdays from 3:30-4:15. They will have a warm up for the first half of the lesson and get ready for the practices. The practices will include pacing, breathing skills, relays, etc. and will be ending at 4:00. Unlike the other grades their ending of the practice will conclude of conditioning/fitness challenges.
The students have the opportunity of traveling to Pittsburgh to run the mile during a portion of the marathon located in Pittsburgh.

It’s a great benefit to the school and community to have this afterschool programs for the younger grades. It gives them an opportunity for exercise, to blow off steam, and to get early training in running (let’s eliminate the Phoebe’s of the world, unless you like running like that). It also serves as a feeder program to our existing cross country and track and field programs.
