The first Athlete of the Week, Ethan Johnston.

Senior golfer Ethan Johnston has been selected as the first athlete of the week for the 2023-2024 school year for his outstanding performances on the course in the Blue Devils’ recent matches.

In their first match, Ethan led Bellwood, shooting a 79 at Sinking Valley Country Club. In their next match at Ebensburg, Ethan improved from his first score, shooting this time, a 75. He will look to keep improving over his season.

Ethan says, “So far this season I’m playing pretty well, still some room for improvement. As a team I’m hoping we can pick up a couple more wins this season”

Ethan first joined the golf team in his sophomore year, and has quickly improved his game. Last year his golf handicap was 10.2, which means he averaged 10.2 strokes over par. This year he has improved to a handicap of 5.3.

When Ethan was asked how he got better over the offseason, he said, “In the winter I had the opportunity to take a couple of lessons. During the spring I played countless rounds and worked a lot on the range.”

His goals for the season include making it to districts and to place in the LHAC championship.

Congratulations to Ethan on being named athlete of the week and good luck on the rest of his season.
