Once a year, the members of B-A’s French Club get together with Mr. VanScoyoc and Ms. Harris to host “Le Restaurant Français.” It’s a French restaurant set up in the high school gym lobby and opened to the parents and friends of French Club members.

This year, the event was held on November 9.

“It’s been going on since before I started here,” said Mr. VanScoyoc. “It’s just something we’ve continued to do. I think it’s a nice opportunity to work with the kids outside of the classroom.”

This event has been extremely successful in the past, but with a large number of new members joining the club, there were more attendees on this day than compared to recent years. For last Thursday night, there were a total of over 70 guests that attended. Together, students participated in setting up, cooking, and serving meals.

Attendees enjoyed a soup of either “Soupe à l’oignon (Onion Soup)” or “Crème de potiron (Butternut Squash Soup),” a salad with “Carottes râpées (Grated Carrots),” and then main dishes of either “Poulet à l’ail (Chicken with Garlic)” or “Filet de porc à la sauge (Pork Tenderloin with Sage).” With the main dish came “Galettes aux pommes de terre (Potato Pancakes)” and “Petits pois à la française (Peas with Lettuce and Onion).” Dessert options included “Petits pots de crème au mocha (Mocha Cream Pots),” “Tartes aux prunes alsacienne (Aslatian Plum Tarts),” or “Génoise aux fraises (Sponge Cake with Strawberries and Cream).”

“I love helping out Monsieur Van, ” said Josh Dorminy. “I also love cooking the food, and serving.”

French Clubs’ governing positions are all held by current seniors, so the spirit for this dinner remains strong. Chance Schreier as president. Josh Dorminy as Vice President, Miranda Tornatore as Secretary, and Olivia Baney as Treasurer.

“Just cooking the meals for everyone is what I enjoy the most,” said Chance Schreier.
