Last week in home economics the students learned about nutrition. They learned about the foods they should eat every day, as well as how much of it. They learned about some healthy-ish desserts and made them. They made fruit salad, as well as delicious apple crisps.
For the fruit salad, students mixed a variety of chopped up fruits such as apples, oranges, grapes, and bananas with mixed berry yogurt. It was a very sweet, creamy, and tart snack. It didn’t compare to the apple crisps, however. The apple crisp tasted fresh, sweet, and heavenly. It was cooked in the microwave, but still turned out impressively good. It was served with vanilla ice cream, which made it even better. It was a perfect ratio of sweet, with a little bit of sour from the Granny Smith apples. Jake Mercer took one bite and exclaimed, “This is the best thing we’ve made all year!”
Next week the students will learn different ways to prepare vegetables including making Mexican street corn.
