Bellwood-Antis senior Evalyna Aiken is a part of the Tyrone/B-A/BG co-op swim team. She has been excelling for the team and recently celebrated her Senior Night in a meet against Penns Valley.
She has been selected as this week’s BluePrint Athlete of the Week.
Evalyna competes in four different events. This includes the 500-meter freestyle, 100-meter backstroke, and the 400 and 200-meter freestyle relay.
In one of her recent meets against Somerset and Huntingdon, Evalyna had a first place finish against Huntingdon and second against Somerset in the 100-meter backstroke. She also had another second overall finish in the 400-meter freestyle.
Her personal best times are when she did the 500-meter freestyle in 6:26.29 and had a time of 1:15 in the 100-meter backstroke.
While setting a personal best is important to her, Evalyna says her main goals are to just go out there and have fun while also giving her best effort for every race.
It was in 2017 when Evalyna first began to swim on a higher level.
“I was watching Olympic swimming in 2016 and told my mom I wanted to swim competitively,” so the next year Evalyna decided to go out for the swim team.
Evalyna’s favorite part of being on the swim team is being able to compete and also getting to cheer on and watch her teammates compete.
Congratulations to Evalyna on being the Athlete of the Week, and good luck on the rest of your season.
