The Lady Blue Devils played their first round game of the PIAA 2A state playoffs against the Berlin Brothersvalley Mountaineers on Friday night. B-A ended up losing this game by over 30 points, having a final score of 70-38.
The game started off as a back and forth battle. There were multiple lead changes in the first quarter, but then Berlin ran away with the lead in the 2nd quarter. The score going into the half was 32-19.
Bellwood-Antis had a tough time offensively throughout the game. Their leading scorer was freshman Karlie Sweigert with her 11 points, with five of them coming from the first quarter.
Berlin had no issues on the offensive side. Sophomore Coral Prosser had an impressive 32 points, which was the most in the game. Mercy Sechler added 10.
The Lady Blue Devils also struggled on the boards. The Mountaineers grabbed almost 30 more rebounds than B-A did. Freshman on Berlin Bryn Prosser had 15 rebounds on her own.
This loss puts an end to Bellwood-Antis’ season. They finished their season with a total record of 14-13.
B-A had a lot of players returning to the team next year. Junior Lilly Gerwert, who was the leading scorer for the team this season, as well as players like Marissa Cacciotti, Karlie Sweigert, and Izzy Sloey are all returning.
“I think we had some big shoes to fill from last year,” coach Longo said. “I am hopeful that we turn up the level of our work ethics and get after things this off season to be prepared for the 2025-2026 season.”
Berlin Brothersvalley will be moving onto the next round of states, where they are going against York Catholic on Tuesday.
