This week’s BluePrint Athlete of the Week is the entire Bellwood-Antis offensive line.
When watching a football game it is easy to get caught up in who’s scoring the touchdowns and who is making the big plays; however, none of that would be possible without a good offensive line. This is the reason why the B-A offensive line is the Athlete of the Week.
The Blue Devils’ offensive line composed of, Jayce Quick, Jackson Grassmyer, Hunter Kyle, Christian Jennings, and Logan Ridgeway dominated up front in Bellwood’s 51-12 win over Penns Valley last week in the season opener. The offensive line was the key reason for Bellwood’s impressive 377 rushing yards.
Not only did the line lead ways for five different B-A players to score touchdowns, they also got to get in on the action when they flipped around and played on the other side of the football. In the second quarter, after a strip sack from Ethan Sharff, Christian Jennings picked up the fumble and ran thirty yards for a touchdown.
All five of the Devils’ offensive lineman are returning from last season. When asked about how important that was, Coach Nick Lovrich said, “It’s definitely important. t’s nice to see them coming together after taking their lumps last year. All of the hard offseason work that they put in is starting to show, they are starting to jell together.”
Senior center, Hunter Kyle, said last year’s struggles on the line paved the way for success this season.
“We were more motivated than ever this offseason to work harder. We are able to do more advanced blocking schemes this year because we are more experienced than last year,” he said.
