This week’s BluePrint athlete of the week is senior Griffin Kyle.
Griffin Kyle is a defensive back and slot receiver for the Bellwood-Antis football team. On Friday, against Westmont Hilltop, Griffin was pivotal in the win for Bellwood. After a stagnant first half, Griffin returned the opening kickoff of the second half to Westmont’s 25. This return would set up the go ahead touchdown for Bellwood.
When asked about the kick return Griffin said, “I took advice from my teammates who told me to take it up the middle. I saw a seam and I hit it as hard as I could. My teammates blocked great and I got as much as I could.”
In the fourth quarter of the game Bellwood was up 12-3. However, Griffin would pick off Westmont’s quarterback and run the ball 35 yards back for a touchdown. This touchdown would increase the lead to 20-3, after a successful two point conversion, this would ultimately seal the game for Bellwood.
Senior Quarterback, Holden Schreier, said, “We were already ahead by two scores, and Westmont’s offense was struggling. Griffins pick six sealed the game and put it out of reach for Westmont. It was a huge play for us.”
