Two things that make us feel loved are hugs and high fives, so why not make a day out of it!
September 12th is National hug and high five day, which is perfect to give someone a high five or even give your best friend a hug. Who would ever turn down a hug or high five?
Hugging creates a sense of calmness and comfort. Seventy-six percent of people are happier after they have had a hug from a friend or relative. Hugging can improve your relationship with someone and can boost someone’s self esteem. Hugs can also soothe anxiety or nervousness. You can easily make someone’s day ten times better with just one hug.
Giving someone a high five can express gratitude. Whenever you high five someone, your brain releases dopamine. Dopamine is a chemical that boosts happiness, which causes you to feel happy after high-fiving someone.
Only 55% of high schoolers are actually happy, so giving a little boost or confidence from a hug or high five, is the best way to show your appreciation.
Both hugging and high-fiving have happy reactions or comfort. So today, go around and hug a friend or high five a co-worker. You don’t know how much that can change someone’s day to be even better!
