Perhaps the biggest win during Homecoming last Friday wasn’t Bellwood’s 28-0 victory over Philipsburg-Osceola but rather the $5,260 raised by the community.
They were funds collected by Sideline Cancer, an organization dedicated to helping those battling with cancer.
The money will go to local residents Lacey Hanna and Trisha Beeler to support their battles with cancer. According to Sideline Cancer, the money was raised through the sale of nearly 600 t-shirts, over 750 items of Sideline Cancer merchandise, and nearly $1,500 in donations.
Members of the homecoming court themselves raised nearly $3,000 through their t-shirt sales.
This year marks the 4th Sideline Cancer game at Bellwood-Antis. In 2021, the group raised $1,000 for Doug Miller, in the B-A’s only Sideline Cancer basketball game. In 2022 it raised $3,500 for Jeff Wright, and in 2023 $5,250 went to Melody Plummer.
That means in four years, the B-A student body and community, in conjunction with Sideline Cancer, has raised more than $15,000 for local families dealing with the infliction.
The game concluded with Cayden Pellegrine’s iconic I Can Cup chug. When asked about the money raised Cayden stated “That was the best part of the night. The game doesn’t matter when you raise that much money for local families.”
Ms. Stinson, who plays a key role in organizing Sideline Cancer events, had this to say about the money raised ” This community has rallied around this event for the last 4 years. It continues to be a blessing to so many.”
