McCaulley Corle started the first three years of his high school career playing football for the Blue Devils. However, going into his senior year, he decided to make a switch.
McCaulley is now a part of the cross country team, where he has found a lot of success.
When asked about his decision to switch, McCaulley said, “It was a hard decision, I’ve played football my whole life. However, I am glad that I did it because I have gotten to meet my new teammates and it will help me for track.”
For this reason, McCaulley is the BluePrint’s Athlete of the Week.
At the start of the season, McCaulley’s personal record (PR) was a time of 21 minutes and 30 seconds, and after just a few weeks e already has his PR down to a time of 19 minutes and 31 seconds. This time is one of the fastest times on the cross country team.
Improving by 2 minutes this early in his career is a testament to McCaulley’s skill and hard work.
Teammate Jacob Carcciolo, who also joined the cross country team after playing football, said McCaulley has been an excellent teammate.
“Having McCaulley on the team is great,” Caracciolo said. “He’s a nice guy. It’s been awesome watching his improvement in his senior year.”
However, even though McCaulley is finding success in a new sport, he still said that his biggest accomplishment this year has been watching all of his teammates improve.
“Mcaulley has been a positive addition to the team,” said Coach Jennifer Soisson. “He quickly adapted to learning how to pace himself on a variety of surfaces and terrains compared to the more familiar and consistent track surfaces in the spring. He and his teammates have been able to form a pack at meets, which helps them to push each other to achieve their best times. He’s self-motivated and works hard. We’re excited for the remaining weeks of the season.”
McCaulley also is on the track and field team where he runs distance. He hopes that all the hard work that he has put into cross country can help him make a push to districts.
