A lot of students do not enjoy FID (flexible instruction day) days but some do, Why is that?
Everyone learns differently and everyone has their strengths and weaknesses when it comes to school right? The reason why some students like FID days and others don’t is because some student find it more difficult to learn and work on their iPads while others find it easier for them to work at the comfort of their own home.
FID days were first introduced during the 2019-2020 school year. School leaders in Pennsylvania thought of FID days because it could allow students to do work like normal from home and not extend the school year with make-up days
I think FID days are a good alternative for snow days, Although it isn’t fun to work from home, it is a great way to have student learn even when school isn’t in.
Many students, however, disagree.
“I don’t think FID days are beneficial because teachers can’t teach us and it’s harder to learn.” says freshman Allison Heisler.
A lot of students feel the same way and would prefer to have snow days that we make up at the end of the year.
Health and physical education teacher Mr. Lovrich says that FID days are good because he would rather be in school, He’s glad we have the technology to help us learn online.
“I like them because students are still able to work like we would have them do in class,” he says.
In general, FID days have been met with approval from education leaders at B-A.
Making up work at the end of the year can be a discouraging way to end the year, and when you know you have to make up school, you don’t enjoy your days off.
I’m sure teachers do not enjoy FID days because they have to post work for their students and can’t help them when they are, but they probably like to be at home.
Either way, FID days came in very handy this week when B-A middle and high school students were forced to stay at home for four days due to a fire at the middle school that closed the building until after the Christmas break. By working from home, students can now finish their year on time rather than being kept in class late in the year for something out of their control.
