The Bellwood-Antis girls’ basketball team played against the Central Mountain Wildcats on Wednesday night in Mill Hall. B-A lost in a close matchup, with a final score of 56-53.
This was a fight until the end. The largest deficit in the game was only by seven points, which was in the first quarter.
B-A is now 3-3 this season, while Central Mountain has improved to 2-3.
For the Lady Blue Devils, junior Lilly Gerwert had a double-double, finishing with 16 points and 10 rebounds. This is Gerwert’s fourth double-double this season. Senior Leigha Clapper also helped the team with her scoring, putting up 17 points, including two three-pointers.
The top scorer for the Wildcats was senior guard Taylor Doyle, who finished with 16 points on the night.
B-A fell behind 12-5 after the first quarter and trailed 25-21 at halftime. The Lady Devils battled in the second half but couldn’t make up ground.
“We can’t come out slow in the first quarter like we have been,” Gerwert says. “We just need to keep playing together and box out.”
Bellwood-Antis prepares to take on the Penns Valley Rams on Friday. The game will be played at Penns Valley. It will start at 6:30.
