“It’s difficult to forget a time singing in a group of over 100 similarly qualified and passionate musicians all there to make music together, and do something larger than themselves,” Mr. Logue, the chorus teacher, remarks.
Two Bellwood-Antis seniors had a chance to do just that at the PMEA District 6 chorus concert, Jacob Caracciolo and Gigi Juart.
The District chorus event, which took place from February 5-7 at Berlin-Brothers Valley High School, is a prestigious opportunity for high school musicians in District 6. This event brings together the top students from over 49 schools to rehearse and perform challenging musical pieces, providing an excellent chance for students to advance to regional competitions.
To qualify, students attend pre-auditions held in November. Roughly 49 schools, and over 200 students audition with a predetermined piece of music. Only half of all students will be able to advance through to districts. Once at districts students compete against other students from all over district 6. Students are given a full day at districts to rehearse and another day to perform their given piece. Those who place in the top fifty percent have a chance to qualify for regionals.
“To make it to District chorus is a testament to high-level student achievement in music, self-determination and focus, as well as mastery over nerves,” Mr. Logue commented.
Both Gigi and Jacob reflected on the opportunity. Gigi shared, “It gives me another chance to sing with amazing people from all around the district and learn more about music technically.” Jacob added, “To me, chorus is more than just a class or an elective. It’s a way to build relationships, bring communities together, and serve as a form of expression and relaxation.”
Congratulations to Gigi Juart and Jacob Caracciolo for their outstanding achievements in the District chorus competition. Bellwood-Antis is incredibly proud of your hard work, and we look forward to seeing your continued success in the future!
