The Lady Blue Devils were in for a close game Tuesday against Bald Eagle Area. After blowing a double-digit lead in the first half, they were going into the half down by one point.
However, the Lady Devils came out strong in the fourth quarter, which led them to the win.
B-A outscored Bald Eagle 36-25 just in the second half, and won with a final score of 55-45.
This was a hard fought victory for Bellwood-Antis, with multiple players contributing with their scoring. Junior Lilly Gerwert had the most points on the team with 19. Senior Leigha Clapper also had a good game with 12 points of her own. Seniors Jenna Norton and Hannah Waite both stepped up big. Norton had seven points and Waite had eight points.
The Eagles however did not back down and did a good job getting different players involved. The leading scorer in the game was senior guard Sybil Thompson for Bald Eagle. Thompson had 21 points in their loss. Freshman guard Kinsey Clark had 11 points, including her two three-pointers.
With the game tied 37-37 with time winding down in the third quarter, Gerwert changed the complexion of the game and helped B-A grab the momentum by draining a three-pointer at the buzzer to put the Lady Devils up 40-37.
The game remained close most of the rest of the way until B-A made its move with just over three minutes to play. Norton drained a three and Izzy Sloey scored in traffic to provide a bit of a cushion while the Lady Devils’ defense put the clamps on BEA, limiting them to just two baskets in the final frame.
The Lady Devils had a chance to ice the game at the line but missed six in a row before Clapper made a pair to seal the game. B-A made just 12 of 24 from the foul line.
This win for B-A put their regular season record at 11-11, or .500 and 10-9 in the Laurel Highlands.
