The Lady Blue Devils played their first round playoff game on Wednesday night. B-A was the 4 seed, and they went against the Portage Mustangs, who were the number 5 seed going into playoffs. Bellwood-Antis easily won this matchup, with a final score of 69-50.
Bellwood-Antis started off this game hot, going on a 10-0 run to start the game. This lead didn’t last long, with Portage hitting a couple of three-pointers to put the game within three points.
There were several players that stepped up big in this game, but in particular senior Jenna Norton. Norton finished the game with a season-high of 18 points, as well as grabbing 11 rebounds. 13 of her points were scored in the first half, helping B-A get a lead of 39-25 going into halftime.
“We all just wanted to win and we had to do what it takes to get there,” Norton said. “We all got hot at the right time.”
Other important pieces for the Lady Blue Devils include senior Leigha Clapper and junior Lilly Gerwert. Clapper had 15 points in this game, which included her four three-pointers. Gerwert also played a huge part in this win, dropping 21 points and getting 13 rebounds.
Portage also had players give solid performances despite their loss. The leading scorer for the Mustangs was sophomore Kendall Bednarski, who had 17 points with three three-pointers. Junior guard Britton Myher ended the game with 15 points, all of her points coming from her five three-pointers.
Bellwood-Antis is now moving on to the semi-finals in the District 6 2A playoffs. On Monday, they will go against the 1-seed Bishop McCort. The game will be played away at Bishop McCort.
