Six Bellwood-Antis students are seeking success in the upcoming District 6 swimming and diving championship.
The event will be held at Penn State’s McCoy Natatorium, February 21 and 22.
The B-A athletes advancing to the championship meet are:
- Ned Smearman – 50m freestyle
- Cam Nelson – 100m breaststroke
- Chase Gallagher – 100m breaststroke and 100m freestyle and 400m freestyle relay
- Cameron Gallagher 100m and 200m freestyles and 200m and 400m freestyle relays
- Julie Kraft and Blake Pennington – 200 medley and freestyle relays
All of the B-A athletes compete in Tyrone as part of the Tyrone/Bellwood-Antis swimming co-op program.
This will be Cameron Gallagher’s third straight year making it to the District 6 meet. Last season, he was among a group of swimmers who qualified for the PIAA meet, as well. Kraft, Pennington, and Smearman also swam last year, so they aren’t new to the spotlight.
“Making districts is something that I’m very proud of,” said Cameron. “The boys’ team this year has a solid chance of placing second overall and advancing to states. It’s always a great feeling to see all the hard work I’ve put in finally pay off.”
If any swimmers advance, they would go onto states, which will be March 12-15 at Bucknell University.
