On Tuesday night, Bellwood-Antis went against the Keystone Panthers at Dubois Senior High School for a consolation game. B-A had to win this game to go to the state playoffs, and they got the job done with a final score of 55-27.
The Lady Blue Devils started the game hot, ending the first quarter with a 15-4 lead. After a close 2nd quarter and having a lead of only five points going into the half, Bellwood-Antis came out in third quarter and scored 21 points to run away with the game.
“I thought we responded well in the second half and went back to being the aggressors and attacking the rim,” coach Long-McGarvey said. “We moved the ball well, made the extra pass and got in a much better offensive rhythm.”
B-A had many different players get involved in order to get this win. Junior Lilly Gerwert again being the leading scorer in the game dropping 14 points, and grabbing 11 rebounds. Senior Jenna Norton also helped with her 11 points, which includes her three three-pointers. Freshman Izzy Sloey had nine points on the night.
Keystone had a much more difficult time scoring. Their top scorers in this game were sophomore Isabella Brandon and freshman Peyton McElravy, both of them having seven points. The Panthers only hit two three-pointers the entire game, compared to Bellwood-Antis’ eight.
The Lady Blue Devils are now in the state playoffs. Their first round matchup is against Berlin Brothersvalley, who only have two losses this season and just won the District 5 2A championship. The game will be played away at Pitt-Johnstown.
“I am excited that we’ve made it this far and proud of our hard work,” junior Marissa Cacciotti said. “I’m looking forward to playing at UPJ; I think it will be a fun experience for all of us.”
The game will start at 7:30.
