Athlete of the Week: Dallas Huff
Everyone at Bellwood knows senior Dallas Huff, a three-sport athlete who is now competing in track & field.
Last Friday the track team participated in the prestigious West Central Coaches Meet, and Huff took fifth in javelin.
Huff also runs for the team as a hurdler and throws the discus.
For his efforts he is the Blueprints athlete of the week.
Blueprint: How did you get involved with track & field?
Huff: A lot of my friends were on the team so I started my freshman year.
Blueprint: What all events do you participate in? Which is your favorite?
Huff: 110m hurdles, 300m hurdles, javelin, and discus. I like all of the events except the 300m hurdles.
Blueprint: Was your senior season how you expected it to be?
Huff: In some ways. I get disappointed with my hurdle times but I’m happy with my throws.
Blueprint: If you could go back and change one thing, what would you change?
Huff: I would have started doing field my freshman year instead of my late junior year.
Blueprint: What advice could you give to others?
Huff: If you’re passionate about a sport or even just an event, bust your butt to reach your goals.
Blueprint: How much can you improve this year?
Huff: I have improved a lot in javelin. I started this year throwing mid 120s and have worked my way up to 154 feet at this point. I would still like to get into the 160s-170s.
Blueprint: What are your expectations for Districts?
Huff: My goal is to finish in the top 3. It’s hard having the top jav thrower in the nation in your District but the other two places are up for grabs. I still need to improve to reach that goal.
