Tune Talk: Top 5 New 2018 Albums

Willie Williams, Staff Writer

5. Pray for the Wicked by Panic! At the Disco
Although I talked up Panic! At the Disco a lot over last year, I’m kind of disappointed to say that I’ve lost touch with them. They’ve gone too pop for me in all honesty. But then again they are set to release a screamo type of album in the future so I’ll definitely be keeping in touch. Anyways, back on track, Panic! At the Disco released their newest album back in 2018 and it’s much better than their “Too Weird To Live, Too Rare to Die,” and “Death of a Bachelor” albums although there were a few songs that weren’t too great off the album.

4. Dictator by Scars on Broadway
For those of you who have no idea who Scars on Broadway is and are wondering why I like them, it’s because of one simple fact. Daron Malakian is the lead singer, lead guitarist, and the songwriter of the group. Obviously I love Daron Malakian, he’s become one of my role models for songwriting and guitar playing, even vocals. Anyways the album had a ton of great songs like “Guns are Loaded,” “Till the End,” “Never Forget,” “We Won’t Obey,” “Gie Mou ‘My Son,” and “Lives.”

3. And Justice for None by Five Finger Death Punch
Of course I would include one of my other newer favorite bands on this list. Not that I was into Five Finger Death Punch before this year, I just didn’t really invest all my time in them as I have recently. Anyways, this album had a ton of great new songs like “Fake,” “Top of the World,” “Sham Pain,” “I Refuse,” “Blue on Black,” “Fire in the Hole,” “It Doesn’t Matter,” and “Stuck in My Ways.”

2. Shiny and Oh So Bright, Vol. 1/ LP: No Past. No Future. No Sun. by The Smashing Pumpkins
As I mentioned before in my album review of this album, I liked it and I don’t even really listen to The Smashing Pumpkins. I can’t really talk up the band so I’ll skip right to the album itself. The album was great. From what I heard before out of their other songs, their newer stuff was better in my opinion. No need to mention track list because overall, all of the songs were all great on their own level.

1. Camila by Camila Cabello
I know that literally all of you are going to be surprised by the fact that I topped all of my favorite bands, and The Smashing Pumpkins, with an R&B, Indie Pop Singer. I can’t help it though. Camila’s newest album was great. There wasn’t a song off of the album that I didn’t like. It’s actually the first time I thought I could listen to mainstream music again in a long while and I though the album was extremely good. The album had some really great songs like “Into It,” “Consequences,” “She Loves Control,” “Real Friends,” “Never be the Same,” “Something’s Gotta Give,” my personal favorite, “All These Years,” and of course the biggest hit off the album, “Havana.”
