Tune Talk: Top 3 Weirdest System of a Down Songs

Willie Williams, Staff Writer

3. Chic ‘N’ Stu (Steal This Album!) (2002)
Seeing as how the name of this song is weird in general, you shouldn’t be surprised that the song is of course weird. This song seems to be more about food for whatever reason. The songs title is basically chicken stew, yet it’s mainly about pizza. It’s literally impossible for me to explain to you what this song even is because Daron Malakian, the songwriter for ninety-nine percent of System of a Down’s song and lead guitarist as well as backup vocalists, is an odd guy. Not saying that’s a bad thing of course, I love Daron Malakian’s work with System of a Down, he’s actually my favorite.

2. I-E-A-I-A-I-O (Steal This Album!) (2002)
I don’t even know what this song is mainly about, so this one is going to be a lot harder for me to describe. The main weird thing that most people recognize is that about half the song is using alliteration. It’s got “Peter’s pecker picked another pickle bearing pussy pepper” for the first lines repeated and then Serj randomly screams after that. I don’t even know with this one. Have a listen and you’ll understand why it made this list.

1. Vicinity of Obscenity (Hypnotize) (2005)
This song mainly made the number one spot on my list because the weirdness never stops with this song. It’s got really weird sounding background vocals in between Serj’s main lead vocals that sound like little girls randomly screaming whenever they’re having fun at like a playground or something. That and the main lyrics that anybody can remember is “Banana, banana, banana, terracotta, banana, terracotta, terracotta pie.”
