Last Saturday, two Bellwood-Antis students participated in the PMEA District Jazz Festival at Altoona Area High School.

Junior Andy Miller played the trombone, having taught himself the instrument, and sophomore Cole Cherry played the electric guitar, He was taught that instrument by Mr. Stewart.

When asked how he felt about the musicians’ performances, Band Director Mr. Patrick Sachse said he was “impressed but not surprised.”

The guest directors were Mike Tomaro, a composer at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Jason Kush, a professor at Slippery Rock University, Mike Bodolosky, a former high school teacher, and Rachel Cornacchio, who teaches at Messiah University.

Random fact: before the festival, Mr. Sachse said the Bellwood group went to a local hibachi grill and Mr. Sachse made them use chopsticks instead of forks.
