The bombing of Pearl Harbor was on December 7th, 1941, at our U.S Naval Base in Honolulu, Hawaii.
The attack on Pearl Harbor was a surprise military strike by the Japanese Navy Air Service.
Today is National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day.
Each year in the United States, National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day honors all that lost their lives when Japan attacked Pearl Harbor.
More than 3,500 Americans lost their lives or were wounded on this devastating day.
The attack caused the United States to go into a global war called WWII.
Here is how Pearl Harbor was describe in the Altoona Tribune: “Bombs from Japan made war on the United States today and as death tolls mounted, President Roosevelt announced he would deliver in person today a special message to congress.”
In that famous speech President Roosevelt said the attack was “a day that would live in infamy.”
The aftermath of the attack still affects us today. The attack led the US into WWII, after which the country became a global military and a political superpower.
The battleship the USS Arizona was one ship that took so much damage it could not be salvaged for use in the war. It remains under water at Pearl Harbor, and there is now a memorial built over top of it.
