UPDATE: Due to inclement weather, Bellwood-Antis has cancelled all activities at the school after 4:30 p.m. today. Unfortunately, this includes county chorus.
A big year for the Bellwood-Antis music department will get even bigger this week when B-A hosts its second all-star event of the school year.
The Bellwood-Antis music department is hosting middle school county choir for Blair County. The event began on Tuesday and will continue through today. The concert will take place tonight at 6:30.
Sixteen middle school students will represent Bellwood-Antis. Those include: Teagan Miller, Maya Soisson, Sunita Sweet, Lennon King, Samantha Fagan, Mackenzie Detwiller, Azilee Solomon, Avery Neary, Aubree Osborn, Lucy Damiano, Avari Hinson, Cameron Hoffer, Kenlee Norton, Alex Langenbacher, Jace Rimmey, and Ashton Key.
B-A hosted the District 6 Band Festival last month and is also preparing to host “Shrek the Musical,” which lifts the curtains in March. Practices are ongoing in what has been a busy and exciting time for the music department.
Choir director Mr. David Logue said the department is expecting about a hundred students for the middle school concert, and while it was a challenge it was “one well worth it!”
“The students are ready and excited to sing with a large group,” Mr. Logue said. “For most of them, this will be one of the largest groups they will sing with in their school career.”
Mr. Logue said that from the hosting end, challenges include making sure all students are accounted for in the program and have their county chorus shirts, as well as making sure all students have the food they need to have at the right times. From the students’ end, they sing more challenging pieces than they normally would, but at that level, Mr. Logue said, advanced singers enjoy the challenge.
From the teacher end, Mr. Logue has faced challenges in making sure Bellwood students are prepared with their music, making sure they have all of the information they need to succeed, and making sure they are ready to learn a lot about music.
In addition to everything mentioned above, setting up the physical space can be difficult, as well as making sure all students have a seat where they need it so rehearsal can begin and run smoothly.
Good luck to all Bellwood-Antis County Choir participants!
