Blue Devils look to cruise past Mountaineers

The Blue Devils line up on defense.

This week, in the regular season finale, the Blue Devils will be looking to dominate the winless Philipsburg Mountaineers after coming off of a 41-0 win against Glendale.

The Blue Devils, who dominated on offense last week, will be looking to find holes in the Mountaineer defense, which has struggled so far this season, both defending the pass and the run.  They give up to 277 rushing yards and 102 passing yards on average, allowing opposing teams to put up 373 points this season while they have only been able to score 58 points.

The Blue Devil offense has been successful in defeating teams by spreading out their offense.  Bellwood-Antis has been consistent on offense, rushing for 149 yards and passing for 148 yards on average this season.  They have only allowed opposing teams to score 166 points this season while they have put up 252 points.  By keeping options open and spreading the offense they have been able to find holes in the oppositions’ defense.

Senior Jake Burch has been confusing defenses by mixing up his role on the Blue Devil offense.  Burch has run for 631 yards and has caught the ball for 434 yards, allowing him to score 19 touchdowns so far this season as a true offensive weapon.

“As long as we go out and respect them and play hard we should win,” said Junior Jarrett Taneyhill.

The Blue Devil defense will also be looking to have a big game after shutting out the Glendale Vikings. They will need to continue blocking near the line of scrimmage to limit the number of plays that make it to the secondary.

If the Blue Devils get the win this week their final record will be 7-3 heading into the District 6 Class A playoffs, but they will first need to get past Philipsburg.
