Last  Friday, March 11, Miss Jamie Forshey took nine students to the Regional Pennsylvania High School Computer Fair, an annual event that highlights Pennsylvania high school and middle school students’ application skills and computer knowledge.

This was an opportunity for the students to unleash their creativity using various technology-related projects.  Then they would use their finished projects to compete against other students.

High schoolers Jasmine McCoy, Alivia Halvorsen, and Kiley Neidermyer pulled in a second place finish in the computer fair logo design category.   Middle Schoolers Jackson Boyer, Maggie Erickson,  Adisyn Gilbert, and Trevor Miller placed third in the digital movie project category.

Miss Forshey thought the students’ effort paid off.

“The students put forth a great deal of time and effort preparing for this event.  Not only did they have to create a project, but they also had to develop a portfolio containing a narrative, copyright info and directions for accessing the project,” she said.

There were 78 projects presented at this year’s event, the highest number to ever enroll, so the field was very competitive.

Jasmine was very pleased with the outcome of her group’s project.

“We had to make a logo of our choice using power point.  We only used basic shapes and then had to fill out some paper work on it.  This really gave us a sense of accomplishment and the hard work paid off for us getting second place,” Jasmine said.

Jasmine’s had a very good time at the tech fair, learning new ideas, and meeting new people.

“This is definitely something I would do again,” Jasmine said.

Bellwood-Antis middle school scholars also put in a great forth of effort into their digital movie project called “Where in the World?” It was a short film describing a place, which was Belize.

“Our project went very good. We worked hard on it and it paid off for us,” Trevor Miller said.

The tech fair which was pretty exciting for them.

“This project really helped us learn more about computers, and the country Belize itself,” said Trevor.

Freshmen Alexis Halvorsen and Paige Wenner presented as well, unveiling a video they produced on the issue of depression.

All of our students that participated definitely got something good out of this experience.   It was a great time to learn and enhance the technology skills that they all have the potential to unleash.
