Last night the volleyball team lost 3-0 to the Richland Rams at the Bellwood-Antis gymnasium in the first round of the District 6-AA playoffs.

It was the major upset for the opening night of the tournament. B-A entered the playoffs as a No. 3 seed, while Richland was No. 11.

The girls fought hard but in each set the found themselves in too big of a hole to dig out of.

“Getting ourselves in a hole can’t happen,” said senior Abby Luensmann.

This was very apparent when the girls tried to come back in the first set but eventually dropped the set 25-18.

The second set was tough for the Lady Devils, and essentially killed their momentum. They lost 25-10

“It is extremely difficult to win three straight sets when you are playing such a great team,” said Abby.

“It was very difficult because we started to lose momentum and doubt ourselves,” said senior Sophie Damiano.

Knowing their season was on the line, the girls fought hard in the third set, but dropped it 25-16.

Even though the team did not go as far as they would have liked to go, they still had a great time playing this season.

“I really liked the energy we had on the court and our competitiveness,” said Abby.

The team finished 16-3, only losing to West Branch and Richland.

Congratulations to the girls on a great season.
