District Office workers saved the day in an unlikely way on Tuesday.

Around 10:00 High School Principal Mr.  Richard Schreier announced to students that they would be getting out early due to an impending ice storm.

Mr. Schreier said, “Student Safety was the main concern. There was a forecast of ice, and I wanted to make sure that everyone got home safely.”

While there were shouts of joy from students heard through the halls, the lunch ladies were rushing to get food prepared in time for the students.

District Office workers, from administrators to secretaries, dutifully stepped in to help.

To some this seems like no big, deal but to the students, getting their food done and served on time meant everything.

“I was just happy to get my French fries!”  said senior Kylie Nedimyer.

It was not tough at all to work with the lunch ladies because we are a team and adaptable. Plus the lunch ladies are awesome!

Some students didn’t even realize the sacrifice made by District office workers.

Senior Hailey McCloskey said, “Wow, they stepped in to help out? That’s awesome!”

The responses were similar throughout the student body.  Everyone was appreciative of the District Office workers’ contribution to getting lunch done on time.

But the student’s weren’t the only ones who were grateful; the lunch ladies were also very appreciative.

Cafeteria worker Deb Rhodes said that she was absolutely relieved to have the District Office workers help because the other lunch ladies don’t come in until eleven, and they had already been called off work.

When District Office secretary Denise Thompson was asked why she decided to help out she said, “Because they (the lunch ladies) needed us to help out and we all worked together to get the job done”

Bobbie Savino said at it was different, but it was fun and she enjoyed not being behind a desk.

As the students got served their food they could observe how well the lunch ladies and District Office workers worked together.  That raised the question on whether or not it was tough or hard to work with a completely new staff.

District Office worker Lisa Kephart answered this whole heartedly by saying, “It was not tough at all to work with the lunch ladies because we are a team and adaptable.  Plus the lunch ladies are awesome!”
