Last night the Lady Blue Devil basketball team traveled out to the Jaffa Shrine to kick off the Jaffa Shine Tourney against Altoona.

The final score was 37-63. Being a 2A school facing  6A powerhouse Altoona, Bellwood-Antis came into the game as underdogs to begin with, but this game turned into much more of a blowout than what was expected.

Bellwood-Antis only made 15 of 53 shots attempted, a mere 28 percent. Outside of the 3-point line things were even worse, only 3 of the Blue Devils 18 shots fell.

Junior Riley D’Angelo shared insight on what happened last night, saying.

“We just didn’t get out and contest shooters and they made us pay. It’s simple we missed a lot of our 3’s and they hit theirs.”

It felt like just another game, playing Altoona, it didn’t feel weird at all to play a school that big.

Alli Campbell led the team in scoring with 15.

Fellow Sophomore Sakeria Haralson followed Campbell with 9 points and led the team in rebounds with 10.

This was game was Haralson’s official homecoming since transferring from Altoona last year and though her team lost Sakeria was named player of the game for the Blue Devils.

Sakeria shared her feelings about how it felt to play against her former team.

“It was different to play against Altoona having played with them for years, I was pretty excited for the game, it was a big deal playing against a team you played for for so long.” said Haralson.

The Blue Devil girls weren’t able to make it to the foul line efficiently, only attempting seven free throws and only cashing in on four of them. The girls entire team accumulated only 5 assists while committing 7 turnovers, the team had half the amount of assists Campbell had on her own in the season opener.

The best thing about the game is it was a neutral game and won’t matter come time for playoffs.

Tonight Coach Swaney looks to take revenge on a Bishop McCort team that ended the Blue Devils run early in the Western Final Four. The game is at 6 o’clock at the Jaffa.
