ARTIST OF THE WEEK: Jordyn Beam
February 1, 2018
Dance is a form of self-expression that’s just as multifaceted as art and music.
This week’s Artist of the Week, junior Jordyn Beam, knows this better than anyone else.
Jordyn dances ballet, tap, jazz, modern, contemporary, acro, and pointe. If she had to pick a favorite, it would be jazz, however
“It has many different genres and everyone has their own styles, so no jazz is the same as the other,” said Jordyn.
It takes many years of practice to learn so many genres of dance. Jordyn has been dancing for 14 years. It isn’t just a hobby for her; she also enters competitions.
“I’ve been competing for 11 years going on 12,” said Jordyn.
Pauline Baker Rodgers, a dance school in Altoona, is where Jordyn takes lessons. She’s inspired to dance by the fact that she can meet people from around the world.
Her favorite thing about dancing is being with her friends and having a community that she can improve from.
Ultimately, Jordyn hopes to dance in her professional life. After graduating, she plans to get into a performing arts college or somewhere she can major in dance.
