B-A track starts season strong

Last Thursday the Bellwood-Antis boys track team started the season at 2-0 while the girls split the meet to start at 1-1.

They boys team defeated BG by a score of 114-36 and defeated the Golden Tigers by a score of 77-73. Senior Clayton Engle took first in triple jump and long jump overall despite the cold weather and took third overall for high jump. Clay had a leap just over 44 feet in the triple jump and jumped 19-8 in the long jump. Dominick Faith rounded out the jumping by winning the overall pole vault by clearing a height of 10’6″

The Bellwood-Antis boys dominated the field events by sweeping all three categories. Chris Wertman also took first overall for shot put, Braden Heisler gained an overall victory in javelin with a throw of 154’1″, and Jared Zitterbart won the discus event with a throw of 119’6″.

BA was swept in the relay events with losses to Hollidaysburg in the 4×800 meter relay and 4×400 meter relay and a loss to BG in the 4×100 meter relay. Dylan Wilson won the 110 hurdles by .5 seconds and also won the 300 hurdles to help Blue Devil effort.

Robert Vankirk would be the only other Blue Devil on the team to win an event in the 3200 meter run.

The Lady Blue Devils leaped over BG with a 96-53 victory but couldn’t clear the Golden Tigers in a 64-86 loss.

Alexis Gerwert easily won overall pole vault by tying the previous school record set by herself to win by a margin of two and a half feet. Kamryn Mercer won the overall high jump, took second in long jump, and third in triple jump.

Shaylee Bennett won the overall shot put with a throw of 24’10” to gain the only BA field win.

Junior Jenna Bartlett gained two solo dubs in the 1600 meter run with a time of 6:20.2 and a time of 13:31.2 in the 3200 meter run gained her a victory by almost a minute followed by Kera Engle and Idemarie Lucio.

The Lady Blue Devils would gain one more victory for the day with a 4×800 meter relay time of 12:57.1.

Today’s scheduled ICC clash at Mount Union was postponed due to the weather and has been rescheduled to Wednesday.
