Jesse Glass, the Bellwood-Antis sports trainer, made a crazy bet with the girls basketball team.

He wagered that if the team won the state championships he would shave his beard.

I was hopeful that the team would make it, but you have the uncertainty of them accomplishing that goal.

“I was hopeful that the team would make it, but you have the uncertainty of them accomplishing that goal,” said Jesse.

After B-A’s 45-42 win over West Catholic in Hershey, he allowed team members to shave his beard on the bus following the game because he knew the girls were going to have a big celebration when they got back to the school, so he thought it would be more rewarding to them to do it on the bus.

Jesse had been growing his beard for more than a year, and it had grown substantially in length.

Tina Hollen, the lone senior on the team, was given the honor of making the first cut.

“His beard was so thick we had to take the guard off the clippers,” said Tina. “That was kind of scary because a moving bus isn’t the safest place.”

Jesse misses his beard already, but, he says, it will be back soon.

“Honestly, I miss actually grooming it and putting the beard oil in it daily. It just gave me a sense of accomplishment,” said Jesse.

Jesse had done something similar to this bet several years ago. It was that if the team won the district title, they could shave his head. He did it because his dad was battling Cancer and he was raising money for Relay for Life.

“The last time he made a bet like this was when we won it in 2014, so we’re 2-for-2,” Tina said.
