Some teens will hate this topic only because they have to reflect on the “garbage” that their parents listened, by “garbage” I mean the 2000’s is where it all started. But we won’t skip there just yet, we’ll start with the wonderful 80’s.
Everybody loves at least some part of the 80’s, whether it’s the metal bands, or the R&B artists, there was some part of it you loved. Some of the songs that were featured at an 80’s prom were songs like “Total Eclipse of the Heart” by Bonnie Tyler, there was “Jessie’s Girl” by Rick Springfield, Cyndi Lauper had all the girls freaking out and dancing to the “totally tubular” hit “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.” Then you had the “Don’t You Want Me” song by The Human League and everybody was screaming at the top of their lungs to “Livin’ on a Prayer” by the one and only Bon Jovi and my personal favorite by Michael Jackson “Billie Jean,” since I grew up listening to him and this song, his music was just simply so incredible as well as Michael himself with his own creative dance moves. But also there’s one last song called “Sweet Child O’ Mine” by Guns N’ Roses which everyone was way into back in the day, I saved this one for the very last just so I could simply call out Axl Rose. Don’t get me wrong, I love Guns N’ Roses, I just cannot stand how much of a baby Axl Rose is, this is the same guy that quit a show two songs into the set all because a fan was simply taking pictures of Axl during the event. This is the same guy that threw a fit and threw his microphone as well as quitting that show when the security guard wouldn’t kick out a guy for wearing a Nirvana t-shirt to a concert. I’m just waiting for him to grow up.
Onto the 90’s era for prom, we actually had a huge variety of different bands for this era. We had rock, metal, pop, and R&B. We’ve got Christina Aguilera starting out for the first time with “Genie in a Bottle,” which is actually still being played a few time on the 94.7 channel nowadays, there was “I Want It That Way” by The Backstreet Boys, Eminem actually rose to fame with “My Name Is…” which was everyone’s replacement for Tupac being shot and killed, speaking of Tupac, we had his “That’s Just The Way It Is,” which I actually love. “Good Riddance” by Green Day as well as Foo Fighters first song “Big Me.” And the ones that I loved and saw were prom options, Enter Sandman” by Metallica and “Smells like Teen Spirit” by Nirvana. 90’s prom was “All that and a bag of chips,” as they said back in the 90’s.
Moving onto to the slightly horrible but not as bad as the “In music” for 2016 through 2018. We had some very well-known songs like “Hey Ya!” by Outkast, “I Gotta Feeling” was a huge hit for The Black Eyed Peas. We heard from Rhianna for the first time with her hit “Umbrella” as well as Lady Gag striking up with her greatest hit in my opinion, “Bad Romance.” We also got P!nk with “So What?” Then we had my top three favorites mainly because I love all rock bands, “Boulevard of Broken Dreams” by Green Day, “7 Nation Army” by The White Stripes, and my number one favorite because I simply love 3 Doors Down, their hit known as “Kryptonite.”
Now I thought these songs were going to be beyond worse than the garbage that the kids in school call music nowadays, but I was definitely proven wrong, obviously because I’m a nineties guy.
