The Tyrone/Bellwood-Antis boys co-op soccer team advanced to the District 6 3A championship game for the first time since 2013 after their 2-1 win over Hollidaysburg last week.

The co-op team needed someone to step up after going down 1-0 early against Hollidaysburg on Thursday night at Tiger Stadium.

B-A senior Owen Shaulis was that man.

Owen scored both goals for the team, with the game winning goal coming with just 4:49 left to play.

“It felt good having a say in the game, but it was more of a team effort,” said Sjhaulis, who matched his career goal total. “The defense played great, our midfielders had good ball positioning all game. I just so happened to get two shots that went in.

In Tyrone’s last finals appearance, they lost to Phillipsburg Osceola, but B-A Junior Corbin Nale feels like this year will bring a different outcome. The Eagles play Bellefonte Tuesday at Alumni Stadium in Wingate.

“I think we have a good chance,” said Nale. “We’ve gotten better since we last played Bellefonte. As a team we have mentally improved, and we’ve changed our setup on the field.”

Tyrone has already lost twice this season to the Red Raiders, losing 4-0 and 4-1, but there’s new life after its first postseason win in five years.

“In the past few weeks our mentality and intensity have changed,” said Shaulis. “We really showed that against Hollidaysburg. At this point, it’s anybody’s game.”
