Everyone has those days they would rather forget.

My friends and I broke down recently and cried. Life has taken a turn for the worst. We feel like the world is against us, and the pressure is bringing out the worst in us. Here are ten things I do to help me through difficult times.

One: Spend time with people who will support you and help you make sense of what is happening. They will have your back and they are the foundation of a brighter future. Breaking down and talking with or crying with your friends can be really supportive.

Two: Identify the problem or source of pain. There is usually only one thing that is getting you down, and everything else is just added on to make it worse. Single out this issue and address the dilemma you are having.

Three: Don’t expect yourself to be at your best or perfect. When you’re having a bad time, you will not be performing your best, but you should not beat yourself up over it. No one is judging you or disappointed in you, so don’t feel this way either. Do not listen to the lies you are telling yourself!

Four: Do stuff that makes you happy. Whether it’s eating your favorite meal, playing a game, or shopping. Spoil yourself. You have earned it, even if you feel like you don’t deserve it.

Five: Make a list of everything you are grateful for. Every time you start to cry again, look at the list. Remember all the good things you have going for you. I know my blessings greatly outnumber my bad fortune.

Six: Remind yourself that this is temporary and will eventually go away. Think of previous bad times and how they went away. Think of a better future that is waiting for you. Look forward to Christmas or the next celebration in your life.

Seven: Don’t be ashamed to cry yourself to sleep. When you are tired and your eyes are sore from crying, all you can do is rest. Sleep! Get your energy back and wake up on the right side of the bed.

Eight: Watch entertainment that will make you laugh. It is not wrong to lose yourself in a show to forget all of your problems. Your enemies hate when they are trying to ruin your life and you are laughing. Laughter is the best medicine.

Nine: Listening to music is a way to make you feel upbeat. Go on Youtube and listen to your favorite upbeat music and forget about how serious your situation is. Just don’t listen to slow, sad music.

Ten: Fake it till you make it. Just pretend that you are having a good day and smile to everyone. Lie to yourself and say that you are having one of the best days you have ever had.  Eventually, you will feel happy and your bad day will fade away.

In conclusion, life is made of good and bad days. However, there are bad things in good days and good things in bad days. In the end, be thankful for the bad days because without them we would never truly enjoy the good days.
