This weekend at the Altoona Field House the Bellwood-Antis cheerleaders had their shining moment for the first time in 15 years. Against 15 different squads, the B-A cheerleaders came in fourth place in the small varsity division at the District championships.

The team narrowly missed out on a trip to states, falling short of the cut by one-tenth of a point.

“It was a community environment where everyone supported each other,” said freshman Emma Chronister. “The crowd and the other squads cheered each other on and participated in the cheers.”

The girls aren’t done yet. After talking to their coach, the squad opted to participate in more competitions in the coming months. Their next competition is in February.

“States wasn’t the goal. Being proud of ourselves as a team was the goal. The next competition won’t qualify us for states. We just want to have some more fun,” said sophomore Caroline Nagle.

The cheerleaders said they also wanted to send a prayer to Arian Hicks, a Tyrone cheerleader who was involved in a tumbling pass that resulted in her injury.

Congratulations to all the squads who participated and good luck to the B-A cheer squad in February.
