December is for most a time of running around for last minute gifts, wrapping presents, eating a ton of food, and spending time with family and friends. In these busy times though, there are also traditions and gatherings that bring families and people together to slow down the fast pace of the month. Some of those events include concert shows, church, food kitchens, and the good ole’ fashion craft show.

Each year, many can find themselves attending multiple of these events, all in anticipation of the big guy’s arrival.

The Bellwood-Antis School District hosts an annual Christmas Craft Show at the start of December, which includes a variety of activities and items for purchase for all ages. This year, 90-plus vendors offering an array of foods and crafts will spotlight the event at Myers Elementary School on Saturday, December 7, and it is rumored that Santa will be making the trip from the North Pole to spend some time with everybody. 

This event, sponsored by the Berky Bunch Relay for Life team, is also a tremendous opportunity for students in the middle and high schools to earn community service hours. Students will have many choices in what they do for the morning and afternoon. These include taking kids through Santa’s Secret Workshop, picking out Christmas gifts for children’s families, wrapping gifts purchased in the Workshop, and the setting up and taking down vendor’s sites. Students can choose how much of their time they devote towards the event, and their attendance greatly increases turnout.  “It’s a really good idea, and a perfect idea for community service. It provides a stage for people to come out and get together during the holiday season.” 

“This Bellwood-Antis annual Christmas Craft Show puts up amazing numbers each year, and is the perfect event to spread some joy and cheer in the most wonderful time of the year,” said Philip Chamberlin, whose mother helps to organize the event for the Berky Bunch.

With 90 vendors the elementary school gymnasium will be filled with crafts for sale, while food vendors will line the hallways with meals and winter treats.
