The B-A baseball team is nearing the end of the season, as there are only 5 games left. Despite Bellwood’s attempt to top the Westmont Hilltoppers 2 years in a row, their efforts fell short last Saturday with a 6-4 loss to the Hilltoppers at home.
The loss brings B-A’s record down to 6-9, which has them fighting for a playoff spot.
Despite the final result of the game, a pair of players showed off their personal skills extraordinarily well.
Centerfielder Jackson Dorminy showed off his speed on the basepath by stealing 2 bases while also contributing a triple. Over the course of the season Mr. Dorminy has accumulated 18 hits over 51 at-bats. There have only been 3 games where Dorminy has failed to get a hit and his current batting average is .353. He is tied with catcher Camden Swogger for most stolen bases on the team.
Freshmen 3rd basemen Landon Sneath definitely had a game to remember despite the loss.
Earlier this season when B-A faced Clearfield, it was noted that “Sneath isn’t out here crushing bombs, (but) the Blue Devils definitely wouldn’t have produced as well without him in the lineup.” That statement was proved wrong Saturday, when Sneath sent an absolute moonshot over the left field fence and calmly jogged around the bases scoring for B-A. Sneath would also contribute 2 RBI in this showing. Over the course of the season, Sneath has accumulated 17 hits over 46 at-bats and currently holds a batting average of .370.
Westmont went up early on Saturday, plating runs in the first and second innings to go up 3-0 before the Devils answered with two of their own in the third to cut the deficit to 3-2. The Hilltoppers then all but put the game out of reach in the fourth with three more to make it 6-2.
That was when Sneath hit his 2-run bomb, but it wasn’t enough to pull the Devils even.
For the play0ffs, the top 6 teams in 2A will advance to the District 6 tournament. The rankings are determined by total wins factored in with the amount of runs allowed and scored, which is combined to make average ranked points or ARP. B-A is currently tied at 7th place with Moshannon Valley in 2A with 2.53 ARP. Currently in 6th place is United with 2.6 ARP.
B-A will test their late season talents as they travel to Altoona to take on the Bishop Guilfoyle Marauders Thursday, at 4:30p.m.
