Students have loved activity period in past years, but in the age of COVID-19, students at Bellwood-Antis won’t be having this period.

However, that doesn’t mean it will stay this way.

Activity periods have been suspended for the start of the 2020-2021 school year. The periods are weekly meeting times for school clubs and organizations to work during school hours. Using a rotating schedule, clubs meet during different periods each week.

“As we approach the second semester in January, we will evaluate the appropriateness of reinstating the activity period schedule,” said high school principal Mr. Richard Schreier.

The suspension of activity period doesn’t stop club advisors from having their activity.

“Club advisors were encouraged to run their clubs and activities if they were able to follow safety guidelines,”” Mr. Schreier said.  “For example, some groups are meeting after school in smaller groups wearing masks.”

Club advisors are doing their best with the new system.

“Our club is really big so it’d hard to to just say we’re going to have a small group because we like to hear what everyone has to say,” said Renaissance Club advisor Mrs. Allison Stinson. “Hopefully after the new year we’ll be able to meet with our club and plan some spring activities where we can get outside.”

Activity period was suspended as a way of making sure teachers had plenty of time in class with their students, in case school would be altered because of COVID.

“At the start of the year, we were unsure how much time we would have with students due the threat of COVID cases,” said Mr. Schreier.

We can hope that we will see the activity period be reinstated in the second semester, but for now let’s do our part and wear masks.
