Mrs. Padula is stepping up to plate and taking over Speech League this year to replace Mr. Bower, who retired last year.

“I feel like I’m going to have some big shoes to fill to take Mr. Bowers place. But, I think between myself and Mr. Bower’s daughter in-law, I think we will be up for the challenge,” she said. “We have about 25 students who have signed up. We are going to be doing a few local, hopefully the state competitions and district and national competitions. I’m kind of apprehensive that I might not be able to do as much as Mr. Bower did, but I’m willing to try.”

There are always some challenges to face when being new to speech and getting new people in speech.

“Right now we are trying to get different pieces for different students. Finding what speech pieces works best with the students,” she said.

Mr. Bower intends to help out with the new speech team.

“I think because Mr. Bower did it for so long he will be going to make some appearances. He’s going to help to give us some direction and assistance to put the right kids with the right speeches,” said Mrs. Padula

Mrs. Padula says that she didn’t want to see an end to the program. She’s got some experience with speech after co-coaching Mock Trial last year. She also coaches the Scholastic Scrimmages team.

“We’ve had quite a few good speakers at Bellwood and I would hate to see the program end because no one stepped up to the plate,” she said.
