Last Wednesday the Bellwood-Antis  junior high boys basketball team traveled to Tussey Mountain to take on the Titans for the Inter County Conference Championship. Unfortunately, the boys were not able to pull off a win against the Titans, a team the Blue Devils had beaten by 12 earlier in the season.

The final was 48-37.

The boys struggled shooting the ball, hitting only 5 of 23 shots from inside the arc, a big drop off from their team average of 50% this season.

“The outcome of this game does not indicate the rest of our season. We were 17-2 with wins against Altoona and a solid West Branch team,” Coach Travis Martin said.

The team was led in the championship game by Johnny Dean’s 11 points.

The junior high group has a great future ahead of them. Most of their games ended in mercy rule and there wasn’t a game that the team did not compete in. The Blue Devils tore through the ICC portion of their schedule undefeated, going 14-0 to win the ICC North Division.

B-A started the season on a 12-game winning streak, and its only loss before last week was a narrow defeat to at the hands of Tyrone. Corry Shanafelt led the team in scoring at 13.8 points per game, while Chance Schreier was close behind at 9.3.

There will definitely be a lot of expectations for this group as they move up to the varsity level.
