B-A track teams find success at invitational

Despite the wet conditions last night, Bellwood-Antis held its 77th annual track invitational at Memorial Stadium. Out of the 16 schools that attended the meet, the Bellwood boys team placed third and the girls team placed seventh. Central Cambria took home the boys team championship, while Tyrone took home the girls.
However, two B-A seniors were recognized for their performance on the day: Joe Wertz was named outstanding thrower and Zach Mallon was named outstanding male jumper.
Wertz, a senior, stood out at the invitational with a win in the shot put and a second place finish in the discus, as well as a fourth place finish in the javelin. Wertz won the shot with a heave of 48 feet, 7 inches.
Z. Mallon, also a senior, added a win with a victory in the triple jump, where he leapt 42 feet, 10 inches, and a fourth place finish in the long jump with a hop of 19 feet.
In the 200 meter dash Sean Mellon placed 4th with a time of 24.14
In the 400 meter dash Kenny Robinson placed 4th with a time of 54.12
In the 3200 C. Poe placed 5th with a time of 11.17.35
Hunter Shawley placed in both the hurdle events, he placed 4th in the 110 hurdles with a time of 16.62 and 3rd in the 300 hurdles with a time of 42.22
The Bellwood boys 400 relay team placed 4th with a time of 45.9, the 1600 relay team placed 2nd with a time of 3:34.85 , and the 3200 relay team placed 5th with a time of 9:05.34.
In the Javelin Aarron Laird placed 6th With a 127-10
As for the girls, sophomore Alexis Lovrich took silver in the 1600 meter run, falling behind by only a tenth of a second. Lovrich also took fifth in the 3200 meter run with a time of 13 minutes and 14 seconds. Lydia Worthing, also a sophomore, claimed a victory for the women in the pole vault, while senior Emily Martin tied for fourth. In the 400 meter dash Yingling took 5th with a time of 1:04.87 and the girls 400 relay team took 5th with a time of 56.17.
