The boys basketball squad has had an up-and-down season with a 10-12 overall record in the regular season and an 8-6 Inter County Conference record. The team is adjusting to some new faces, with many of their starters from last year lost due to graduation. One of those new faces is senior Kyler Sweigert, who is making a big impact on the hardwood.

For his performance on the court so far this season, Sweigert has been selected as the BluePrint‘s next Athlete of the Week.

Sweigert, a first year starter for the Devils, is averaging 14.0 PPG, 3.7 RPG, and 1.6 SPG so far this season. He believes his dedication and hard work off the court has contributed to his game.

“It’s all about the time I put in,” said Kyler. “I had to work for the spot I’m in, and it certainly didn’t come easy.”

Sweigert put up a career high of 30 points earlier this season in a victory over the Tussey Mountain Titans. His goal for the rest of the season is to go as far as possible in the District playoffs.

“These guys [on the team] will always be my brothers, no matter how we go out. I’m just grateful to have this experience here at Bellwood; I wouldn’t want it any other way,” noted Sweigert.

Fellow senior teammate Sean Mallon commends Sweigert for his production on the court.

“[Kyler] has been a crucial part of our team,” stated Mallon. “I’ve enjoyed playing with him and look forward to advancing our season with him as well.”

Kyler and the Devils secured an 8 seed in the District VI AAA standings, and their next game and opponent is TBD.
