November 14th: World Diabetes Day

(Smarties Background (Petr Kratochvil))

Don’t give in to your sweet tooth on this day.

This week we celebrated National Pizza Day, National Pickle Day, National Spicy Guacamole Day and then to top it all off… National World Diabetes Day.

How ironic. Diabetes is often caused by poor eating habits and found in many obese men and woman, though it can also be genetic.

World Diabetes Day started in 1991 and was founded by the International Diabetes Federation and the World Health Organization. They wanted to pick a day out of the year to raise awareness of Diabetes and related causes. They choose November 14th, the birthday of Sir Frederick Banting, a medical scientist who co-discovered insulin and was the first person to use it on humans.

One of the ways to mark this day is by wearing blue and educating yourself on this worldwide health concern.
