B-A hoops teams drop season openers

Chelsea McCaulsky had 20 points on Wednesday, but the B-A girls lost their opener to United.

The basketball season for the Bellwood-Antis boys and girls teams didn’t get off to the start the Devils and Lady Devils were hoping for Wednesday.

The Lady Devils lost their season opener 49-30 at United. Bellwood-Antis struggled to get points all night, at one point managing a mere 5 in the fourth quarter.

Senior Chelsea McCaulsky led the team with 20 points. sophomore Jenna Norton had 6 points and sophomore Leigha Clapper had 4. 

The girls had 24 turnovers on the night. 

The girls will look to get a victory over Tyrone on Friday night. This is the Lady Devils home opener, and tipoff is at 7:30. 

The varsity basketball team started its season off with a tough 53-46 loss to Cambria Heights on Wednesday.

BA was down 17-12 at the end of the first quarter.

Senior Caleb Beiswenger led Bellwood with 12 points, and sophomore Holden Schreier followed with 9 points.

Central Cambria’s two highest scorers were Parker Farabaugh and Chris Sodmont who both scored 15 points.

The junior varsity team opened the night with a win, 42-26.

The varsity boys look to turn things around this Saturday against school rival Tyrone at Tyrone Area High School at 3.
