The Bellwood-Antis boys basketball team held its annual banquet this past Friday, April 14.

Each year, the team recognizes players with outstanding performance and leadership qualities.

“I think the banquet was a great way to celebrate the team’s success this season,” said head coach Tyler Mertiff. “We were able to honor players who had a successful season for us.”

This year, several starters were awarded for their actions both on and off the court.

Senior Caleb Beiswenger won MVP for the 2022-2023 season, as well as offensive player of the year. Senior Brayden Wagner won co-defensive player of the year, shared with junior Chance Schreier.

“It was an honor to win these awards,” said Beiswenger. “I could not have won these without my teammates pushing me, as well as having a great coaching staff.”

Sophomore Holden Schreier was awarded rookie of the year, with juniors Kole Dickinson and Anthony Caracciola winning JV defensive player of the year and JV offensive player of the year, respectively.

In addition to awards, scholarships were awarded to seniors with plans on attending college. These scholarships included two $500 scholarships, as well as $250 and $100 scholarships. Seniors Caleb Beiswenger, Canyon Neyman, and Brayden Wagner were awarded these scholarships.

“This group of seniors were special in the way they set the standard of hard work and dedication to the program,” said Mertiff. “They will be missed and hard to replace.”
